Discharge Time
If you are staying overnight in the hospital your discharge time will be between 9am and 10.30am unless otherwise advised by your specialist.
Patient Transport
Ambulances are for emergency transport only and not for transport home. A cost may be incurred for ambulance transport to other hospitals for reasons other than the provision of medical services unable to be provided by NHW. You are encouraged to discuss all ambulance transport with a member of staff. It is ideal if you can organise someone to transport you home before you come into hospital. Please remember that you should not drive for 24 hours following an anaesthetic or procedure.
Post Discharge Care
Time spent in hospital today is considerably shorter than it was in the past. If you think you will require ongoing care or support at home, please discuss this with nursing or medical staff well before your discharge date. This will allow adequate time for services to be arranged. Please refer to the section on ongoing care.
Before you leave
Please make sure you have:
- Post operative instruction sheet
- Instructions on how to manage your condition at home
- Contact numbers if you have problems after discharge
- Prescriptions/medications
