Public Patients
Medicare covers the cost of all medical treatment for public patients. The only charges patients will have to pay are for non-medical services such as medications, telephones and allied health aids and appliances.
Private Patients
The hospital raises invoices for each patient based on the number of days in hospital and the type of procedure. The hospital forwards this account directly to the patients health insurer. Accounts for medical services such as doctors, radiology, pathology etc are forwarded to the patient. It is the patients responsibility to pay these accounts and collect their reimbursement from medicare and their health insure. Prompt payment of these accounts would be appreciated.
Transport Accident Commission
TAC patients must complete a TAC claim form. This form is available from the admissions office. If the form is completed the hospital will send an invoice to TAC for all medical treatment.
WorkCover
On admission it is the patients responsibility to advise the hospital they are the subject of a WorkCover claim. Patients need to ensure their employer has submitted a claim to WorkCover. If WorkCover approves the claim the hospital will invoice WorkCover for all medical treatment.
Veterans Affairs Patients
If Veterans Affairs patients produce their Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) card on admission, the hospital will invoice DVA for all authorised medical treatment.
