Friends of the hospital donations for 2010 / 11
The Friends of the Hospital Auxiliary have for many years contributed to the well being of our patients, clients and residents through the purchase of equipment and support of activities. The 2010/11 year was no different with the Friends raising and donating a massive $47,803.70 to purchase much needed clinical medical equipment for Northeast Health Wangaratta.
Currently consisting of 35 members, the Auxiliary has conducted a range of activities over the past year including their famous monthly cake stalls, Christmas hamper and plum pudding project, pie drive, various raffles and event catering.
Equipment purchased from Friends of the Hospital contributions to Northeast Health Wangaratta in 2010/11:

Handheld Pulse Oximeter X2
For Ground West, they measure the oxygen saturation of a patient’s blood. They cost $985.00 each.
Humidifier X3
One for Ground West & 2 for CCU, these are used to moisten Oxygen as it is being distributed to patients, they help by reducing dryness. They cost $2,865.00 each.
BP Machines
The Friends kindly donated $10,000 towards a major upgrade of our Blood Pressure machines at NHW. We desperately needed 51 machines totalling $55,387.63.
30% 10mm laparoscope – Theatre
Laparoscopic abdominal surgery has increased at NHW. The benefits of this item is being able to spend less time in hospital, with less postoperative pain as well as less scarring. Laparoscopic surgery is used for diagnosis of disease or for operative removal of organs or tumours. Laparoscopic surgery is now performed in gynaecology, general surgery and more frequently in urology.
Friends of the Hospital meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of the month in the Staff Cafeteria from 7:30pm and the Friends famous monthly cake stalls are held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the Staff Cafeteria from 9am to 11am. All Welcome.
